Can you describe your role at Nederman, and the Development Department?

I work as an engineer in the Product Center in Friesenheim, Germany where I am responsible for our configured and serial products: FMC and FMK Filters, MCP-16RC, FlexFilter 13/18 and FE 24/7. My areas of responsibility include the maintenance and improvement of our serial products, customized orders that require certain technical adaptations, and the ATEX-applicable products I just mentioned. Aside from this, I also work as a project manager for development projects at Nederman. I manage projects from the concept study stage all the way through to the launch and handover of the product to its new owner.

How are you working with ATEX, more specifically?

I make sure that our products are correctly designed and adjusted according to the ATEX directives and its harmonized standards. I am also responsible for making sure that our ATEX manufacturing processes run as intended.

Can you tell us more about some of the projects you are currently working on?

In late May, we added a new filter cartridge with an improved cleaning system to our FMC collector range. The CA178 is a high efficiency cartridge with nanofiber layers. This enhances the performance of the FMC collector and provides more benefits and values for our customers.

I am currently the project manager for the mechanical development part of a new filter controller – SmartBox – that also comes with an IoT gateway. SmartBox will be used on mid-range Nederman filters like FMC and the L-Series, and thus replace current controllers acquired from external suppliers. SmartBox will enable a lot more functions and benefits than our current controllers have.

What are the greatest challenges you face in your work?

The handling of many different topics, as well as different priorities regarding project deadlines versus daily business challenges. Having said that, I really enjoy handling these different topics and working together with a lot of people from different departments.

How long have you been working at Nederman, and what attracted you to the company?

I have been working for Nederman for about five and a half years, and even before that I did my student internship semester and my bachelor’s thesis at Nederman. My encounters with nice and skilled people, as well as all the interesting projects of the company, attracted me to pursue a career at Nederman once my studies were over.

What do you enjoy most about your work, and what do you like to do when you are not working?

Again, I really enjoy working together with a lot of different people, from different departments all over the world, during projects. Working together with great colleagues is always exciting and inspiring.

When I am not working I really like to be out in nature and to go hiking in the area where I live, as the Black Forest really has some great hiking spots. In addition, I like to travel and explore new countries and cultures. I am currently also in the midst of another challenging project – renovating my house.
