Numerous studies over the last decades have proven that workers who work in the cleanest environments work more efficiently, creating a higher output and a better quality output than those that work in dusty, dirty environments.

First, a clean environment is more pleasing to work in than a dirty environment. It shows to the workers that the company cares about them, not only to the product.  

Second, when dust particles are breathed in, the body is impacted by particles in the air. Large dust are trapped in the nose and if workers are constantly cleaning their nose, they are not running and operating the machinery at the greatest efficiency. The finer dust and smoke can penetrate through the nose and breathing pathways and can penetrate into the lungs, causing less oxygen to be absorbed into the bloodstream. The less oxygen in the bloodstream, the less energy a person has, causing employees to naturally work slower. With less oxygen in the bloodstream, its easier to get sick and be out of work more often, causing additional loss of efficiency in production.

Lastly, workers who feel healthy are typically happier employees. After spending hours to years training your workers, the last thing wanted are for the workers to leave and go somewhere else. Having to constantly retrain workers is very inefficient, meaning factory output and plant profitability is at risk.

    The health risks of welding fume, and how to reduce them in the workshop

    In 2017, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) released new scientific evidence showing that exposure to mild steel welding fume can cause lung cancer, and possibly kidney cancer, in humans. As a result, mild steel welding fume has been reclassified as a human carcinogen in the United Kingdom, and it is likely that other countries will follow suit. Moreover, this recent discovery indicates that all welding fume should be seen as potentially carcinogenic, and that measures will need to be taken in order to reduce the health hazards caused by welding fume exposure.
